What is Team Future?
Team Future is the umbrella branding of our eligible International Junior
Development gymnasts in Australia. Team Future unites all of the 9-13
year old gymnasts from around the country who are successfully competing
in the International Levels Program and who's programs are embracing the
IDEAL Skills Assessment concept.
The branding for the Team Future concept was established in 2005 and until
the end of 2007 Team Future was defined as the grouping together of the
National and State Institutes and Academy (SIS/SAS) program developmental
gymnasts. Now with gymnasts emerging from a variety of gymnastics programs
from around the country Gymnastics Australia has provided an extended
frame work which values all gymnasts once they have reached the necessary
performance level, no matter which program they are training in. This
more coordinated approach is necessary to support the programs which are
less experienced in high performance development as well as still meet
the needs of the SIS/SAS network.
Who is Eligible for Team Future?
Team Future membership is a reward for the gymnast's hard work and progress.
All eligible gymnasts, not only those in SIS/SAS programs, are embraced
and welcomed into the Team Future squad on a yearly basis. To be eligible
to be a member of the Team Future squad, the gymnast must:
•Be turning 9 - 13 years of age in the current year.
•Have achieved a National qualifying standard at a State Sanctioned
Event or National Event for International Level 5-10 during the year;
(gymnasts who have been injured and unable to compete in the calendar
year may be able to carry their result from the previous year forward
for 1 year maximum) and
•Have participated in IDEAL Skills Assessment by the Junior National
Development Co-ordinator or the National Coach during the year.
Team Future Gymnasts will be named after Nationals (July) each year and
will retain their membership until the following July. Additional gymnasts
who reach the qualification standard in the second half of the year will
be added to the squad and announced in December.
The National Qualifying scores required to be achieved in order to be
a member of the Team Future squad are available in the "WAG National
Squad and Camps criteria including Team Future" document found here.
